As a child I was able to run about and play with my four brothers. I dreamed of becoming an explorer, or joining the circus. As I grew up I became gradually disabled by Muscular Dystrophy and ended up at a residential 'special' school. By the time I left, I was longing for freedom and adventure. I'd had enough of rules; I couldn't spell, or do maths. Unruly, chaotic and late for everything, I only liked doing art and writing endlessly, without punctuation!
One day, pondering on my unpromising future, somebody brilliantly suggested Art College and I thought yes, that will do for me. And this was how I became an artist.
Now, four decades later, I'm glad I made that choice. Since my graduation from North East London Polytechnic, I haven't stopped creating art. I have worked with a variety of media and techniques: painting, sculpture, mixed media, printmaking and animation. I have also made a film for Channel 4 Television.
